I love Sara Bareilles. I love her voice, I love her music, I love her style, and I love the fact that I’m usually the only one of my friends who can flawlessly pronounce her last name. This love, which I hadn’t realised could grow any more, swelled to alarming proportions with the release of the music video for her new single, “I Choose You”.
In the video, Sara helps two couples have incredibly memorable marriage proposals. One of those couples just so happens to be a same-sex couple, Aly and Andrea of Denver, Colorado. Note that this isn’t some one time ad campaign or something. This is a music video which will forever be under Sara Bareilles’s credits. And while some people may not think of it as a big deal, it really is! This is added positive exposure of the normalcy of gay couples and the powerful and genuine love that they possess. And it does a lot for people who may not necessarily be homophobic, but need a little education on same-sex couples to see. Lyrics of the song include:
Tell the world that we finally got it all right
I choose you
I will become yours and you will become mine
I choose you
My whole heart
Will be yours forever
This is a beautiful start
To a lifelong love letter
It’s a really sweet video, and I’m only slightly embarrassed to admit that I teared up a little towards the end. On top of all that, it’s a really great song! Sara, I definitely choose you!
